Help Us Make Room for More Donkeys!
Explore Our Expansion Plans for Little Longears.
Every donkey that enters our gates has a story. Some come from situations of neglect, while others arrive because changing circumstances have left their owners unable to care for them. Regardless of what brought them to Little Longears, they have a permanent home and a commitment to their care for the rest of their lives.
Providing lifelong sanctuary means carefully considering the needs of every donkey we welcome, from rehabilitation and veterinary treatment to proper nutrition and companionship. We wish we could say yes to every request for help, but we simply don't have the space to take in every donkey.
That's why we're excited to share some important news about the future of Little Longears!
In June, we purchased 47 acres of adjoining land, marking the beginning of another significant expansion of the rescue. This addition will allow us to build new barns, paddocks and pastures, ultimately increasing our capacity to care for another 100 to 125 miniature donkeys.
Our Plans for the Property
Our master plan includes:
- A New Main Barn: Modeled after our existing main barn, this facility will serve as an operations hub and feature dedicated living areas for our senior donkeys, many of whom require specialized care and attention.
- Five Donkey Barns: Designed to accommodate different herd dynamics and meet the unique needs of each group of donkeys.
- Paddocks and Pastures: Each barn will have access to outdoor areas, providing plenty of room for exercise, social interaction and daily activities.
Planning is already underway, with construction anticipated to begin in spring 2027. The estimated cost is $1 million, an investment that will allow us to welcome more donkeys while maintaining the high standard of care they deserve.
Sponsorship Opportunities
Our capital campaign offers a unique opportunity to make a lasting impact by sponsoring one of the barns, stalls or paddocks that will become an essential part of daily life at the rescue.
Every donor who contributes more than $1,000 to our capital campaign will be recognized on the Legacy Wall, a permanent tribute to those helping make this expansion possible.
Sponsors will also be recognized with commemorative plaques displayed on their sponsored structures, acknowledging their generosity and lasting commitment to Little Longears.
